The economy of North Somerset as per tradition is mostly agricultural and of a farming nature, like the sheep rearing to get wool, especially on the hills of Mendip and also there is the sector of dairy farming amidst the valleys. Tourism had an importance during the era of the Georgians and provided a lot to the economic sector especially because of the coastal towns of Weston-super-Mare which is now a resort and it was a village earlier. But there was a declination of the tourism during the 20th century though but in spite of it there is stability in this sector of the economy.
The port of Bristol has many ships at its kitty during the 19th century and the company is also looking for docks in the other coasts too. Portishead Dock was the first in here where the coal was handled to South Wales. The recent one is the Royal Portbury Dock which is important for the import of cars. The area of North Somerset covers around 380 km with a residential population of about 193,000, with around 85,000 households. There has been a change in the population during the 1950s as it had doubled in number and there has been the prediction that the population would rise to 3.0 percent by the year 2011 and to 17 percent by the year 2026. North Somerset has a high rate of the elderly population in this town and this has caused the town to have an elderly population than any part of England. There are 134,132 working people in this town. There are around 78 schools which have the support of the Unitary Authority.
In spite of all these disparities and the downfall, the status of the entertainment in North Somerset has been kept in tact and strong.
